There are currently over 3 million shelter dogs in the United States, and unfortunately, many of them struggle to find permanent homes due to certain perceived flaws such as age, appearance, or breed. Disabled dogs have an even harder time finding a forever home as potential adopters may be hesitant to take on the additional responsibilities. However, every dog deserves love and affection, and individuals like Tracey Fowler play a vital role in providing care. As a devoted caregiver and dog enthusiast, Fowler is currently taking care of eight pups, six of whom have disabilities. Thanks to her compassionate care, these dogs have been given a renewed lease on life.
Fowler began adopting puppies with disabilities after her German shepherd, Hayden, passed away due to degenerative myelopathy, a condition that affects the spinal cord of older dogs. She had a special bond with Hayden and felt drawn to helping other dogs who faced similar challenges.
When Hayden was struck down by an illness that paralyzed his hind legs, he found himself in a difficult situation. But with the help of a wheelchair, he refused to let it hold him back and continued to live life to the fullest despite the obstacles he faced.
After a challenging fight against an illness, Hayden unfortunately passed away. But his efforts during his struggle were not in vain. Fowler chose to honor Hayden’s memory by helping other canines in similar predicaments. She managed to save six puppies that need specialized care and attention. Fowler is now committed to making sure these pups have happy and meaningful lives.
The furry and adorable canines that she takes care of are fondly referred to as “The Fowler Herd.” Their caretaker and companionship with each other are quite strong, as they frequently indulge in outdoor activities or go out on adventures around their locality. Approximately six of the pups have disabilities that necessitate special equipment to help them move around, while the other two are healthy and active.
According to Fowler, taking care of a dog with disabilities is not as challenging as it may seem. Although it may demand extra attention and may not be feasible for everyone, it can be an incredibly rewarding venture for those who are up for it.
Spending time with Fowler’s adorable puppies is always a delight. Their cheerful nature, affectionate behavior, and lively spirit never fail to put a smile on your face. The chairs they use have made a significant difference in enabling them to move around freely and enjoy their playtime without any hindrances. Even during the frosty winter months, these cute little creatures don’t let the chilly weather dampen their spirits. Fowler is always ready to replace their regular wheels with skis, ensuring that they can continue to have fun and playfully frolic around in any climate.
Fowler remains positive that her Fowler Herd and herself can inspire others to provide support for disabled dogs, ensuring they lead a happy and fulfilled life. As per Bored Panda, Fowler mentioned that the mere fact of showcasing an alternative to pet owners who may be considering putting their sick pets to sleep would be considered a triumph.
Fowler’s adorable pets are lucky to have such a loving and dedicated mom. She makes sure they live life to the fullest and spend it with their big, happy family. Hopefully, sharing The Fowler Herd’s amazing story will inspire more people to adopt dogs with disabilities so they too can have a long, fulfilling life.
